Five Dutch brands that take Earth Day seriously!

Happy Earth Day you earthlings! Today, on April 22nd we will all try to be just a little bit more green than usual. Thinking of ways to that can often end in headache: what else is there besides recycling your waste, turning off the lights and taking short showers? Well, how about responsible shopping?!

We listed five Dutch brands that offer amazing products, that give back to our planet, one way or the other!

1. Dopper

Dopper wants to live in a world where people are aware of the environment, where we actively reduce single-use plastic waste, and where everyone, close to home and far away, has access to safe and fresh drinking water.

Next to the really cool reusable bottle design (2-in-1-feature), this brand also holds a Cradle to Cradle AND B-Corp certification. Which confirms that the Dopper Original is the first responsibly and sustainably produced water bottle, which also contributes to the welfare of people and the environment.

Did you know that, Dopper USA is also building a massive plastic bridge out of thousands of single-use plastic bottles and is showcasing the awareness project in NYC this year?

In the meantime, we highly recommend the Dopper bottle for all those earthy days to come. There are many varieties like their new insulated bottle as well as their original plastic bottles!

Fun fact: when you take the large cap off, it serves as a cup!

2. Tony's Chocolonely

Finally there is a way to eat chocolate and be responsible at the same time. Tony's Chocolonely offers chocolate bars made from 100% slave free chocolate.

Most chocolate is produced by the large food multinationals who exploit farmers in cacao countries, resulting in poverty and child labor.

Tony fights these giants by offering deliciously flavored chocolate bars (such as caramel sea salt and pecan coconut) made through a completely fair trade supply chain. Go Tony!

Fun fact: it's impossible to break a Tony's Chocolonely bar into equal pieces, so there is always a chance you get the bigger piece.

3. MUD Jeans

Sustainability is at the core of what MUD does. First of all, their clothing is made from 100% sustainable materials produced by workers earning fair wages. Secondly, they introduced a green business model called 'lease a jeans'.

How it works? You pay a monthly fee to lease a pair of jeans. When you're done with them, you send them back and pick out a new pair. The old pair will be  recycled by MUD. Besides jeans, they offer jackets, shirts, beanies and sweaters.

Fun fact: you can also order a pair of 'upcycled' jeans, taylor made to your wishes, using different recycled jeans and patches.

4. Moyee Coffee

'A revolution in a cup' is how Moyee describes their mission. They are radically changing the supply chain of coffee by helping coffee producing countries own the part of the chain that creates the most value: bean roasting.

Over the years, coffee giants monopolized the coffee industry. They made sure all the profit was made by coffee consuming countries and decreased the quality of coffee in the process.

Moyee offers coffee harvested and roasted in Ethiopia. The profits stay where they belong and we get a better cup. Available on Amazon.

Fun fact: they created a new term to replace fair trade; fair chain coffee. And they also offer chocolate now!

5. WakaWaka

'Share the sun' is WakaWaka's mantra. Their product is simple: a device that taps into solar energy and turns it into electricity and/or light. Very convenient for camping trips or late nights in the park. The profits they make, run directly into the WakaWaka Foundation that aims to bring electricity and light to countries that often don't have access to it.

These countries often have to make do with torches, candles and kerosene lamps, causing burn victims, COPD and cancer patients.

Fun fact: Nobody really knows what WakaWaka means, see Urban Dictionary
